Swords into ploughshares

Transforming arms into art. How far can dangerous memories, toxic religion, intractable conflicts and gender violence be transformed? Professor Jolyon Mitchell (the University of Edinburgh and former BBC World Service Journalist and Producer) and Dr Lesley Orr (the University of Edinburgh and the Iona Community) investigate how different media and arts can be used to build peace. Drawing on a range of international, national and domestic examples they explore both whether and how ‘swords can become ploughshares’ and weapons can be transformed into art.
